Every one of our Green Piñata members has has such a unique story to tell in their parenting journey. This month, we're launching Piñata Mama of the Month to share those stories – and some tips. Enjoy!
Name: Jess Runnals
City: Boston, MA
Occupation: Entrepreneur. Owner @ Little Lovage Club
# Kids: One two-year-old daughter Nora, with a second on the way!
If I had a kid-free afternoon and nowhere to be, I would..
be sitting by the beach with a book in the sun!
What are some of your favorite childhood playtime memories?
My mom was a teacher and she was really into art, so one of my favorite things was doing art projects with her. I have definitely done art classes with Nora but haven't done as much art at home as I'd like to. Other than markers and crayons, I don't necessarily like to bring messy art projects into our tiny apartment!
What are your favorite ways to play with your kid(s)?
We love being out and about in the city and I love going to the park with her. This summer, she really started to love swimming so we've been doing that a lot. Most of the time, we love to be outside but when we're in the apartment, we really love to cook and bake! In the mornings, when we aren't rushing out the door, we like to bake muffins because who doesn't love muffins? I also love to show Nora how to measure things and she really likes the act of putting things in a measuring cup and into the bowl before seeing the final result!
What's the one thing that helps you stay sane as a Mom of little ones?
I think I stay sane by having really great Mom friends and talking to them about what's going on with Nora at any particular time. Also, finding me time is really imporant whether it's working out or reading a book or getting a massage.
As a veteran Green Piñata mama, how do you make the most out of your GP experience?
When we get a shipment, I put it in the living room away from her other toys and we go through the toys one by one, paying attention to each one. I put them off to the side at the end of each day and always put the pieces into each of the little bags that they come in. Then, everytime we play with our Green Piñata Toys, we take them out one at a time and play with them one at a time. That way, the toys are fresh for the entire month that we have the package so we don't play with them all at once and she doesn't get sick of them. That's what she does with all of her other toys!
