Wooden toys have an amazing, naturally antibacterial quality to them – with it's porous surface, wood absorbs the moisture and bacteria from the surface and that bacteria is said to eventually die instead of multiplying like it does on plastic. Research like this has led us to understand why wooden toys are particularly great for sharing.
All that being said, we clean thoroughly! Here's how to clean wooden toys the safe (and thorough) way.
What You'll Need:
- Dry, clean facial cloths
- Greenshield Organic Dish Soap (and a bowl of warm water to mix it into)
- 10:1 mixture of water and distilled white vinegar
- Greenshield Organic Baby Multi-Purpose Cleaner
- Drying rack
How to Clean Wooden Toys
Step 1: Get the grub off! Squirt a small amount of Greenshield Organic Dish Soap into a bowl of warm water. Mix it gently and apply the soapy water to each piece of your wooden toy, paying close attention to any stuck on food, play-dough, other mysterious substances:) Do not submerge toys into the soapy water as wood tends to warp if it absorbs too much water. Leave it to air dry on the drying rack.
Step 2: Sanitize. Apply the diluted vinegar solution onto each piece of your toy with a clean cloth. Vinegar has sanitizing qualities that help get rid of dangerous bacteria that you can't visibly see. If and when your child gets sick, using the vinegar solution is a great way to rid her toys of harmful germs so she doesn't get sick again from her own toys.
Step 3: Protect. Spray the Greenshield Organic multi-purpose cleaner directly onto the toys from a distance or simply apply the spray to a clean cloth and wipe down each piece. Again, avoid spraying too much liquid onto the toys to protect them from warping. Let pieces air dry.
Step 4: Wipe it down. Gently wipe down each toy piece with a lightly damp, clean cloth.
Step 5: Air dry.
